SPIRE 2005 is the twelfth edition of the Symposium on String Processing and Information Retrieval. The first four editions were called WSP (South American Workshop on String Processing). Since 1998 the focus of the symposium was broadened to include information retrieval. Starting in 2000 Europe has been the conference venue on even years. As in past editions, the proceedings of SPIRE 2005 will be published in the Springer series Lecture Notes in Computer Science.
SPIRE will be in tandem with a common day in Web Retrieval with LA-WEB 2005, the Latin American Web Congress
